Description

The 5th China International Occupational Safety & Health Exhibition and China International Forum on Work Safety, jointly sponsored by the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS), a cabinet-level department of the Chinese government overseeing workplace safety, and the International Labor Organization (ILO), is scheduled to take place in September 2010. In the capacity of chairman of the Forum's organizing committee, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all that are interested and will participate.

The theme of the Exhibition and Forum is "Safe Development Concerns People's Well-being". Presentation and exchange of ideas and experiences with regard to this theme will help us recognize the importance of improved work safety in a country's industrializing process and comprehend the laws and characteristics concerned, thereby enabling us to contribute to the cause of occupational safety and health in China and in the world at large and to promote the safe, harmonious, all-round and sustainable development of human society.

To foster harmony in society is a major task identified by the Chinese government with a view to building a well-off society in an all-round way, which has given full expression to the people-oriented development perspective. To promote preventive culture at workplaces, in a sense to truly protect workers' safety and health, whose continuous improvement can benefit the society as a whole, is a logical step amid efforts to build a harmonious society, which features democracy, the rule of law, justice, sincerity, amity, vitality, stability, harmony between man and nature, and coordinated economic and social development.

The Chinese government has been placing great importance on issues regarding work safety. In recent years, by taking major measures in terms of systems, mechanisms, funding, etc., it has continuously improved workplace safety conditions and on a preliminary basis, checked the rising trend of accident total, in the context of sustained and rapid growth of the Chinese economy.

We will continue to give top priority to safety issues and promote preventive culture at workplaces, oversee the primary responsibility of enterprises for workplace safety, and urge safety watchdogs to fulfill their regulatory role. Sustained efforts will be made in promoting safety culture, building a sound legal framework governing work safety, implementing safety responsibilities, advancing safety science and technology, and increasing the funding of safety measures. It is our aim to enhance safety management at source, eliminate hazards that stand in the way of improved safety conditions, and ensure safety at the intrinsic level.

To better fulfill our mission, we will further broaden our horizon and continue to open wider to the outside world in the field of work safety. We are eager to enhance cooperation with the relevant intergovernmental organizations, foreign governments, NGOs, intermediaries, multinational companies, and enterprises of different types, to learn from advanced safety philosophy, science and technology, and management approaches that originate in other countries and regions. Hopefully, assisted by international wisdom, China will braze a new trail on how to upgrade work safety, achieve steady improvement of its work safety conditions, and, as a responsible player in the international community, make due contributions by implementing the ILO-initiated Global Strategy on Occupational Safety and Health and creating for mankind a safe, harmonious environment with few disasters and no hazards.

Description

China National Convention Center (CNCC) has opened officially in October 2009 for its originally intended function – providing international standard, purpose-built convention and exhibition facilities.

The Center was an important element in the overall plan for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games when it served as the main press center and international broadcasting location as well as providing the venue for fencing and pistol shooting competitions.? CNCC is ideally located in the heart of the Olympic Green adjacent to the National Stadium (Bird Nest), the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) and the National Indoor Stadium – all of which are proving popular places for people to visit in post Olympic Games times.
