Description
New Partners, More Focuses
More than 60% of the exhibitors at the last edition of International FoodTec/Interfood Shanghai were in the meat processing or packaging sectors. Going forward, the event in 2010 will expand and shift its focus to be the trade platform for meat, dairy, seafood, as well as vegetable and fruit processing technology, with the support of the China Animal Agriculture Association, Shanghai Meat Industry Trade Association, Shanghai Dairy Association, Shanghai Fisheries Trade Association, and the Shanghai Vegetable Trade Association respectively.

Despite ranking first in the world for the production of vegetable and fruits, China is processing less than half of that processed by its overseas counterparts. It is estimated that by the end of 2010, processed vegetable and fruits in China could only reach 35% to 40%. Even this requires related equipment and new machineries valued at more than US$500 million.

The deep processing of seafood not only brings to an end the simple and low-end production methods of the past, it also injects added values to the product. It has become necessary for the local trade to adopt in order to propel the industry to the international playing field.

Currently, the key equipment and machines used by the top 50 meat-processing companies are mainly imported. With the expected growth of the industry, demand for related equipment and machineries will surge. To maintain competitiveness, China-made machinery is set to gain popularity, spurring the technological development of such equipment in China.
Similarly, most of the key players in the dairy industry depend on imported equipment for production. It is forecast that by 2015, per capita consumption of dairy products will be 2.5 to 3 times more than that of today.
